It seems medieval to me. I don't get it. Build proper public restrooms. But this??? Also, what about the ladies? Are they not allowed to have a place where to go pee?

Because it's unnecessary, apparently. I agree on the girl part, as I'm one myself. But I guess men just don't care so much about peeing in public as ladies. Also, Amsterdam (and the Netherlands in general) isn't really a place where you find much prudish-ness and privacy.
I am a man, and I am not comfortable with peeing in public. Without mentioning the fact that you can't wash your hands with these things. The more I think about this, the more this thing disgusts me.

This is so fucking common. Any music festival or huge outdoor gathering usually has these. It's for the hordes of drunk men that need to just piss every 5 minutes, that fuck up bathrooms for ladies and guys who need to drop a log.

If you ever go to a music festival you'll understand that this is relatively modest. When the ones next to the main stage are full, people just unzip and pee up any available wall.
