"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

[–]quber96 390 points391 points ago

And if you turn off the power prepare to fucking die.

[–]Noxstant 182 points183 points ago

Holy fuck, this makes me wonder how the town of my old Gamecube save is doing after not playing it for at least four years

[–]rkpenguin 311 points312 points ago

Weeds. Weeds everywhere.

[–]Firetaffer 130 points131 points ago

I just got back to playing Wild World literally 2 hours ago, and after 5 years I can confirm that there are a loooooot of weeds.

[–]Noxstant 171 points172 points ago

Tom Nook has probably set my house on fire

[–]Erok21 61 points62 points ago

I wonder who's gonna have to pay for it after he rebuilds it without asking anyone.

[–]RideSkateboards 51 points52 points ago

The new Animal Crossing should be like this. Crazy disasters happen to you and your neighbors while you're offline.

I'd play it.

[–]marty_m 218 points219 points ago

"I can't turn it off, Mom! They'll burn everything!"

[–]EM3ERS 33 points34 points ago

This made me laugh so hard I snotted. Sorry.

[–]Hamshanks 6 points7 points ago

[–]Noxstant 22 points23 points ago

I really wish a game like that existed

[–]j0nny5 14 points15 points ago

I see you've never played early Ultima Online.

[–]cuppincayk 3 points4 points ago

Or Eve...

Didn't Sim City do something similar as well? I can't remember

[–]Octopuscabbage 21 points22 points ago

Eve: Where everything you've worked for constantly explodes.

[–]NewPass1 11 points12 points ago

Or Minecraft SMP on a public server.

So. Much. Fire.

[–]jorellh 1 point2 points ago

simplicity only did that when you typed funds over and over.

[–]mjolle 2 points3 points ago

That's the reason I think UO>WoW. You got ganked? Sorry, all your gear lost.

Got burglarized? Tough luck. Someone killed you and stole your house deed? Your boat? That's too bad.

In UO, life and your decisions had reactions. In WoW, you die and res again, that's it.

[–]Camjam13 14 points15 points ago

Instead of catching boots, you'll catch body parts while fishing

[–]OccasionallyWitty 5 points6 points ago

If you turn the game off for too long Tom Nook stages a Maoist uprising in your town and you sign in to find that all the animals have been driven underground out of fear.

[–]whiterungaurd 2 points3 points ago

you wouldnt have much of choice to play it or not...

[–]Aperture_Kubi 7 points8 points ago

IIRC there's a ghost you do a fetch type quest for, and one of the rewards is that he plucks all the weeds for you.

[–]Daidra 11 points12 points ago

There's a ghost you can find after midnight wandering about and if you can track him down he'll grant you a wish. One of which can be to instantly remove all of the weeds in your town. And I just realized I sound like an insane person.

[–]Cygnus_X1 1 point2 points ago

I haven't touched my Gamcube since the xbox 360 launch. I'm pretty sure my town is in anarchy because of the interest my bank account has accumulated.

[–]BoydCooper 59 points60 points ago

"Wow, Noxstant, a blast from my past! I haven't seen you in 52 months."

[–]polarityinverted 28 points29 points ago

I went to visit Teddy after months and months away. He was my favorite neighbor. Had nicknames for me and everything and didn't call me out on pretending to laugh at his jokes; a real friend.

But when I got to his lot, the house was gone. I wasn't a fan of our other neighbor, this mousy bitch, and tried to ask her where he went. She didn't even mention Teddy. In fact, she had the gall to become so angry at my absence despite our real lack of friendship that she walked away.

I was surprisingly, while temporarily, hurt over the ordeal.

[–]872020 15 points16 points ago

I hate it when camofrog moves and I find him on my sisters ds

[–]cuppincayk 21 points22 points ago

They always have this expression when I revisit: ಠ_ಠ

[–]proud_to_be_a_merkin 19 points20 points ago

Are there any other games with this type of mechanic (time passes in the game world whether you're playing or not), but not so geared towards children? Seems like there could be some clever applications...

[–]Allogistic 30 points31 points ago

They're called MMOs

[–]proud_to_be_a_merkin 21 points22 points ago

Fair enough. Though I meant single player (or at the least, offline).

[–]cuppincayk 4 points5 points ago

Time doesn't necessarily pass while you're gone. It's all done by the clock on your device. So, if you set the clock back, you can go back to holidays and stuff that you missed.

[–]Baka-san 1 point2 points ago

Or you could go back in time and murder all the village people before you arrive so you would freak out and wonder why this game is broken. Mwhahahahaha!

[–]Trachyon 1 point2 points ago

There was a metal gear solid game, (can't remember which), where if you saved and quit while fighting a boss, and then came back a few days later, you'd find that the boss had died of starvation or something.

[–]theycallmeryan 3 points4 points ago

That was in Metal Gear Solid 3 and the boss's name was The End.

[–]FailasaurusRex 1 point2 points ago

NintenDogs. That fucking dog would always run away.

[–]tapwater86 2 points3 points ago

Fable 2/3

[–]Ultra-Bad-Poker-Face 9 points10 points ago

"Hi, Seth! The last time you visited was... October 30, 2007!"

[–]KingGorilla 7 points8 points ago

I just change the clock date on my gamecube temporarily. I AM THE TIME LORD

[–]BOSINATOR 8 points9 points ago

Every single friend you used to hang around with is either dead or has moved. People felt miserable after your departure and didn't care about trash, so you will find rubbish and leaves everywhere.

You will be alone, but rich, because bank investments yielded a good return.

[–]ColonicIrritation 1 point2 points ago

I once set my GC date to something like 2020 hoping i'd have almost two decades worth of piled up birthday/christmas presents. All I got was weeds.

[–]awesomeness212 44 points45 points ago

Scariest gaming moment ever: after a few restarts without saving, Resetti tells you that he's going to reset ALL of your data, and then the game fakes a reset. I almost had a heart attack at the age of 10.

[–]tails57 27 points28 points ago

bitch move, Nintendo. bitch. move.

[–]LikeAzrael 7 points8 points ago

I don't know why but my biggest fear wasn't mister resetti. The thing that would make me not want to play the game after having abandoned it for months was that i knew when i went back to my house it would be full of roaches.

[–]awesomeness212 4 points5 points ago

Or weeds. Fucking weeds.

[–]Schools_Back 3 points4 points ago

This reminds me of Banjo Kazooie where if you cheat too much they delete your game. Those bastards...

[–]Crazyasian93 44 points45 points ago

NOT RESETTI!!!!!!

[–]Dude_Im_Godly 9 points10 points ago

what happens.

[–]Protanope 20 points21 points ago

I literally just realized that his name is "Reset"ti. o_o

[–]alkhalicious 55 points56 points ago

[–]Interwhat 1 point2 points ago

Never played animal crossing, I always read it as "Rez-eti". Never heard it said out loud and didn't know the context so yeah, I know what you mean

[–]frozyo 1 point2 points ago

No matter how many times I tried, I could never quite hit the little fucker in time with my axe.

[–]publ1c_stat1c 8 points9 points ago

And prepare to be in debt to that raccoon forever

[–]bnhjug 3 points4 points ago

Resetti!!

[–]Nyphera 242 points243 points ago

This reminds me of a certain story...

[–]connordger 53 points54 points ago

oh god

[–]DrBehemothMD 81 points82 points ago

I've always viewed this as the canonical telling of Animal Crossing. No other version comes close.

[–]SamElliottsVoice 37 points38 points ago

Not disappointed.

[–]GoatOfUnflappability 14 points15 points ago

Well, there went 90 minutes.

[–]panickedthumb 9 points10 points ago

Good job, I did read that in Sam Elliot's voice.

[–]dangerous_beans 21 points22 points ago

My theory has always been that Animal Crossing is a totalitarian society ruled by K.K. Slider. I don't remember why, though.

[–]Spacetime_Music_Ride 9 points10 points ago

Because he's the one you would least expect! Nook is just a front man.

[–]greatdaychap 18 points19 points ago

just spent 30 mins reading/listening to the entire thing

[–]bldkis 8 points9 points ago

Me too. Like, damn, that was wonderful.

[–]RyanLikesyoface 4 points5 points ago

Is there audio for part 2?? It stopped after part 1 for me )=.

[–]Phroon 2 points3 points ago

No, but the final conclusion has audio.

[–]sandstone 46 points47 points ago

10/10. Would read again.

[–]AloeRP 10 points11 points ago

I love that story. In fact I came here to post it...

[–]Hipstershy 9 points10 points ago

I have only played the Gamecube version of Animal Crossing once or twice, and in passing at that, but that is the best damn fanfiction I have ever read.

[–]MyNameIsFDR 9 points10 points ago

Reading that was probably the best part of my day. Fantastic.

[–]dudeguy1234 9 points10 points ago

What in the FUCK did I just spend half an hour reading?

[–]SpeaksDwarren 9 points10 points ago

what

[–]yaredw 7 points8 points ago

What...what the hell did I just read?

[–]Psirocking 4 points5 points ago

So many mindfucks and plot twists.

[–]Brutalitor 7 points8 points ago

What the fuck.

[–]YahwehNoway 7 points8 points ago

Man that needs to be a movie or something

[–]animousity692 5 points6 points ago

I can never play the game the same way again. This kind of gave me shivers at the end. who the hell writes this stuff?

[–]boathouse2112 1 point2 points ago

been avoiding this in every animal crossing story... and now i know whyಠ_ಠ

[–]Timm3h 1 point2 points ago

Just finished reading. I thought I was in animal crossing trying to escape. The wife cooking bacon snapped me back to reality.

[–]Mr_Narwhals 33 points34 points ago

The fact that his face stays the same the entire time is what gets me.

[–]Seanjohn2800 2 points3 points ago

He is perfectly content throughout.

[–]uberChilders 19 points20 points ago

"AND DON'T EVER FUCKING RESET WITHOUT SAVING, YOU FUCKWAD."

[–]Doomwaffle 18 points19 points ago

For having the most hilarious (English) cutscenes, this was pretty much the last good Sonic game. Ahhh, the memories...

"Don't worry Mr-" interrupting "OH NO, WHAT DID YOU DO?"

And who could forget Sonic's telling Shadow to eat his words before Shadow has finished his insult.

[–]michiganrag 6 points7 points ago

Sonic Colors on the Wii is really good!

[–]MixMastaShizz 6 points7 points ago

iunno man I just played through the whole thing this weekend and it's pretty awful lol The game is pretty easy but there's enough glitchy, cheap bullshit thatll kill you. So frustrating.

But thank god the main feature is the Chao garden which the story is just a supplement to

[–]Chronis67 7 points8 points ago

Chao garden was the shit. Especially if you had Sonic Advance and connected the 2 games.

[–]lukeco 2 points3 points ago

Sonic Generations is fucking amazing. You owe it to yourself to play it.

[–]lukeco 1 point2 points ago

That's it, I'm playing Gamecube all day.

[–]Im_Nave 15 points16 points ago

I always got super sad when someone from my town moved away :(

[–]plainsnailing 77 points78 points ago

Wow this game was dreadful! But why did I waste two hours of every day for a year maintaining imaginary orchards and hopelessly trying to catch the coelecanth everytime it rained... I miss this game

[–]UncleBone 128 points129 points ago

Indentured Servitude: The Game.

God I love it. It's like the Harvest Moon of slavery.

[–]poko610 14 points15 points ago

I love Harvest Moon. My motto every time I play is "Fuck bitches, grow turnips." I've never gotten married in any of the game but am always rich.

[–]Zorca99 5 points6 points ago

Best motto ever.

[–]ArisaMiyoshi 2 points3 points ago

Mist from Rune Factory would love you forever.

[–]semi-sweet 1 point2 points ago

Mist is crazy! I never liked her... Just gives me the shivers.

[–]Brony2you 7 points8 points ago

Now I am wondering how the bitch that I married is doing in that game...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]pencilinfrontofme 25 points26 points ago

2 hours a day? shit. I remember playing that in 2nd grade coming home at 3 and playing till 10 every night. and weekends would get super crazy with my friends also, just playing till 4 am.

I loved looking back on those memories. thanks

[–]marty_m 14 points15 points ago

"pencilinfrontofme, I haven't seen you for 2,920 days! Where have you been??"

[–]pencilinfrontofme 31 points32 points ago

Growing up :(

[–]unladenswallow 16 points17 points ago

oh fuck that made me really sad

[–]VoidVariable 2 points3 points ago

You might like this.

[–]Baka-san 1 point2 points ago

Why do you have to make me sad right before going to bed? Goddamn.. :(

[–]RTLemur89 1 point2 points ago

Were they that specific in the GameCube AC? I forgot. I have been playing Wild World again recently after not playing for a long time (I thought it had been 2 years), and they just said something like 3 or 4 months, I think..

[–]JinglingOctopus 1 point2 points ago

Dude if you were 7 when this game came out, you're like, 13 now. Don't lament too hard on those long lost childhood memories, chances are you're still making them.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points ago

Those inconsequential orchards won't be inconsequential in Animal Crossing U, when Nintendo start handing out prizes for well maintained gardens and grand prizes for the best maintained ones. Well, maybe.

[–]Moonohol 6 points7 points ago

I would play the fuck out of that, real life prizes or not.

[–]WilliamSchnell 2 points3 points ago

I swear, Animal Crossing is probably what gave me my current interest in the coelacanth. There's just something so intriguing about a fish that, unless you knew when it appeared, would probably be found by accident. Just like the real thing.

[–]Hadowscas 9 points10 points ago

Must. Catch. Fish.

[–]Iwokeupwithoutapillo 10 points11 points ago

All having a mini heart attack when you see your first shark oh my god it's right there!

[–]stonedkangaroo 6 points7 points ago

And then missing it because you were so excited you pressed the button too soon.

[–]Iwokeupwithoutapillo 4 points5 points ago

I know that feel. I saw two sharks in all my years playing, and both got away.

[–]garbobjee 6 points7 points ago

FUCK I DASHED PAST A COELACANTH.

[–]AloeRP 59 points60 points ago

Don't care that it's a repost, it's a good one.

[–]notyourstepdad 0 points1 point ago

no matter how many times I see this, I fall out of my chair

[–]FoxFortress 48 points49 points ago

3rd repost

don't care, laughed

[–]cthulhu_zuul 8 points9 points ago

EVERYONE: Give this a read.

It's a Let's Play of Animal Crossing. You've probably heard of it. That's because it's amazing. It sheds some serious light on the "town" you live in.

[–]sirkablaam 1 point2 points ago

Wtf did I spend the past hour and a half reading?

[–]e001mek 11 points12 points ago

Where's the part about mercilessly beating your neighbors with a net?

[–]jusanotherladyartist 11 points12 points ago

Or your silver shovel that incidentally won't rust.

[–]Chrispyhawk 4 points5 points ago

I miss this game

[–]khaase7 4 points5 points ago

That was one of the best things I've seen in my life. The zoom in at the end is what seals the deal.

[–]iPotatoes 62 points63 points ago

First time I've seen this. lol'd hard.

[–]cooljdude 13 points14 points ago

[–]TheAmazingSkoof 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, except the virtual "Mom" in the game frequently sent letters to the player. The letter they saw were sent by the game.

[–]4VaginasInMyMouth 6 points7 points ago

this makes me so sad i can't even finish it again i remember reading it before in a non ytmnd form, gah, i hate it

[–]YouCantOutrunABear 3 points4 points ago

My workplace's internet filtering software classifies that link as "Illegal or Questionable". Suddenly vague interest is transformed into a burning curiosity.

[–]Sir_Platypus 16 points17 points ago

Probably gonna get hell for this, but the enjoyment people get from these games is so close to the enjoyment that people get from Zynga style games. Small rewards for daily play leading towards a goal that will take you forever to achieve. Only difference is farmville added a money hole and a social element.

[–]dokadukkha 17 points18 points ago

There is just something so lovable about animal crossing. I know everything is mindless and just a grind like Zynga games, but its just such a wonderful combination of touches that make it different.. To start, its the most peaceful game I've ever played. Busy day at work? Time to run around mindlessly trying to catch that dragonfly while my neighbors interrupt me to tell me how great of a friend I am. Yes, they really do tell me that. Or they show me a letter someone sent them about how there is never enough mayo on sandwiches. The music is so simple too. It just plays on repeat for an entire hour at a time, but whenever I hear it, no matter the duration, I am so calm and relaxed.. Ill just turn it on on my speakers and listen before I got to sleep. No more worries, no more cares. And when I am fishing, walking the shores back and forth mindlessly, the second my character casts his line the game goes quiet so you can here the fish. But that quiet, that couple seconds, just waiting in silence, is the most peaceful, beautiful feeling ever on a busy stressful day. Its strange but it is. The game is so quirky. Like ridiculously quirky. All the animals are bizarre, but so lovable. You actually care about your neighbors. The saddest I have probably been this past month was when my favorite neighbor moved away (tough life I live, I know). I was so sad that I'd never get to hear about how much Lobo loves to garden again. They are just stupid imaginary animals on a screen, but for some reason I care about them. It's weird but very nice.

I see the similarities, but I think you are wrong. Animal crossing is a great game.

[–]ocarina_21 4 points5 points ago

Lobo seemed like a bit of a prick when he first came to town, but I have to say, he grew on me. That said, my favourite neighbours were definitely Leopold and Rollo.

[–]watershot 3 points4 points ago

You buy the game and you get all the features. It's your own instanced world and it adapts based on what you do.

[–]FiletOfBaby 2 points3 points ago

I think the money hole is the important difference here. You don't see the "buy virtual shit with real money so your friends can also do the same!" kind of business model with AC.

[–]RTLemur89 1 point2 points ago

If you can get some "non native" fruit trees growing in your town, and then eventually plant a whole bunch of them, you can make over 100,000 bells once every three days (by shaking off all the fruit and picking it up and selling it to Nook). I know that's still a lot of time... and I guess it still does require daily checking/doing stuff... well, I'm currently unemployed, so my sense of time is pretty skewed right now. :P

[–]powerage 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, except Animal Crossing had a huge helping of soul on top of it. It's one of the most charming games I've ever played.

[–]watermanjack 1 point2 points ago

I don't know....AC was never fun to me, and I spent so little time on it. Yet, I wonder how many hours I spent playing Legend of the Red Dragon on BBS.

[–]Captain_Kuhl 3 points4 points ago

I haven't lol'd this hard from anything AC related in so long...thank you so very much.

[–]BurgerWorker 7 points8 points ago

Anyone have that link where Nook is running like a concentration camp sort of thing?

[–]atonalcicada 2 points3 points ago

Came for The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing, was not disappointed. Thank you.

[–]BurgerWorker 3 points4 points ago

You are a gentleman and a scholar.

[–]azenone 5 points6 points ago

Whenever someone mentions Animal Crossing, I think of this.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

That's a sweet story. Mom sends me presents a lot. She always pretends it must have been someone else, but I know what's going on... giggle

[–]alecyo12 8 points9 points ago

This makes me laugh no matter how many times I have seen it

[–]RiNgO70 2 points3 points ago

Is animal crossing a good game? I haven't played any and have been considering buying it for quite a while.

[–]pkbronsonb 1 point2 points ago

This is basically ICO, as well.

[–]YouCantOutrunABear 3 points4 points ago

No, that's more "why do I have hor-- wait nevermind I don't care because shadows are trying to kill us and this stupid bint can't figure out how to use a ladder."

[–]EdgardoMal 1 point2 points ago

I remember I stopped playing Wild World because I forgot to save (for like the 56th time, I was careless :( ) and that Resetti guy just wouldn't STFU and let me play! I was literally talking to him for an hour and every time he told me to write an apology I would call him very...very mean things o.o

[–]typoguy13 1 point2 points ago

played it yesterday... I almost turned the power off without saving. But then I hesitated, thinking "don't want Resetti to yell at me"

...then I remembered that you can insult him.

"fuck it, i'm turning the power of, just to call him an asshole one more time."

worth it. every damn second.

[–]ImposterProfessorOak 1 point2 points ago

wow.. i think i just viewed the most reposted thing ever. well done.

[–]lukeisopinionated 1 point2 points ago

This was front page one month ago. Really..

[–]bisandwich 1 point2 points ago

God those fucking animals.

[–]sarahgene 0 points1 point ago

This cracks me up every single time I see it

[–]Snorkal 0 points1 point ago

Pretty much how I remember it.

[–]RastaMonRifla 0 points1 point ago

I remember being terrified as a kid by that raccoon when my gamecube turned off.

[–]punchingtrees 0 points1 point ago

I watched my brother play this game and now I suddenly have a new interest in it.

[–]champ35640 0 points1 point ago

[–]IDlOT 0 points1 point ago

You just bastardized my favorite game ever.

I HATE YOU!

[–]Spacetime_Music_Ride 2 points3 points ago

Yes... Let the hate flow through you.

[–]chaiteabro 0 points1 point ago

I don't want to pay mortgage to a RACOON! I'M A FUCKING HUMAN!!!

[–]TheKnightofNew 0 points1 point ago

An old one but a good one.

[–]idrawinmargins 0 points1 point ago

Fish for 2 hours. My wife comes in 'There better be some good fuckin fish in the water".....

[–]CPCookieMan 0 points1 point ago

One of my favorite games of all time.

[–]G1int 0 points1 point ago

[–]ChrisCipher 0 points1 point ago

Repost, but so funny.

[–]stratit 0 points1 point ago

I am greatly amused reading this while high

[–]qwertygnu 0 points1 point ago

didn't read title; even funnier

[–]ThunderOrb 0 points1 point ago

Not sure what's going on here, but I had to upvote it, anyway. Hope you don't mind!

[–]HeroicPrinny 0 points1 point ago

Isn't Tom Nook a tanuki?

[–]theformer 0 points1 point ago

My theory is that you play one of the horned children from ICO who's mother hid you from the priesthood and sent you off a train to a far away town to save your life.

[–]Harryandro 0 points1 point ago

It's not an option of "Would you like to buy a house?"

It's more: "I built this house, and I'd be so upset if you didn't repay me for it!"

[–]Grajalesexperience 0 points1 point ago

Now I get it why they call him Resetti. lol

[–]TragicOne 0 points1 point ago

Another case of take 4chan material, get karma.

[–]TheAmazingSkoof 0 points1 point ago

[–]syphon3980 0 points1 point ago

Repost, but still hilarious

[–]Dante_Hicks 0 points1 point ago

NO RESETTIN!

[–]haha_yeahman 0 points1 point ago

ha ha yeah man!!!

[–]replaysMike 0 points1 point ago

I have no idea what this thread is about.

[–]Shippoyasha 0 points1 point ago

It all makes sense if you consider Animal Crossing as a cross-promoted game series alongside Assassin's Creed. Tom Nook is Abstergo. You have no choice. You are a consumer. You will propagate in the system or die if you refuse.

[–]Illidan1943 0 points1 point ago

I will always remember this LP: http://lparchive.org/Animal-Crossing/

[–]tails57 0 points1 point ago

you ruined the Animal Crossing tag on tumblr thank you

[–]judypri3st 0 points1 point ago

I've written it on the community bulletin board before, I'll write it again, NOOK IS A CROOK!

I love shit like this that makes fun of Animal Crossing.

[–]onederful 0 points1 point ago

it's5:53am and i don't know why im still up, yet, having seen this a billion times, it always makes me laugh. always.

[–]semi-sweet 0 points1 point ago

Ever turned off the power on the train? Freaky shit man, I I'll never do that again.

[–]Kittlesauras 0 points1 point ago
