LSD can (i.e., will not necessarily in any given case) produce so called open-eye visuals, but these are generally limited to spatial and chromatic distortions. Motion trails, inflated or reduced perception of scale, that sort of thing. But the closest to 'seeing things' an individual not predisposed to hallucinatory episodes will get is seeing colours that aren't there, or perceiving subtle motion in the real world which isn't occurring (e.g., surfaces seeming to 'pulse'). In general, it changes perceptions. It doesn't create them out of thin air.

Which is not to say that someone on LSD couldn't have a chat with the five headed dragon who created the earth if they wanted to. Exploring imaginative worlds is a whole lot easier on LSD than off it. But you've got to create them for yourself, and if you want to imagine something which isn't there, you'll generally want to do it with your eyes closed. Which is to say, you can "talk to your spirit animal" or some such thing off LSD or on it, but the experience is likely to be quite a bit more interesting under the effects of a drug with hallucinogenic properties. Otherwise, (e.g., meditative) strategies for producing that experience are largely similar with or without a hallucinogen.
