Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Mugatu's new Derelicte campaign. Hansel is so hot right now. Hansel.

[–]M7600 47 points48 points ago

I Can Deralick My Own Balls, thank you.

[–]javabrewer 22 points23 points ago

One look? ONE LOOK?!

[–]yuribotcake 2 points3 points ago

You did it!

I know, I turned left.

(fuck ya'll http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx9O6q0pDAU @2:00)

[–]FauxShizzle 5 points6 points ago

FTFY

And we got the reference. Anyone who has ever seen that movie knows about that scene because it's a significant attribute of the protagonist. You were probably downvoted out of the fact that it was an easy joke, not that it was vague or ambiguous.

Plus you said two people's parts. It reads very awkwardly.

[–]yuribotcake -1 points0 points ago

Actually I had to fix it. Originally ("I did it, I turned left!") was wrong, so I figured I can sort of fix it by quoting it as a dialogue. But, this might sound weird, it actually made me realize what exactly happen just now. After seeing the movie billion of times, just now I realized that Derek had no intention of saving the prime minister.

[–]M7600 3 points4 points ago

But I don't even know who the prime-rib of propecia is....

[–]EatSomeVapor 6 points7 points ago

I have no idea what you just said.

[–]2LabsGuy 2 points3 points ago

Damnit, missed it again.

[–]pagaladmee 0 points1 point ago

[–]anonomonster 0 points1 point ago

what is he saying?

[–]pagaladmee 0 points1 point ago

supposedly he is closer to God. He is like a Monk, people are asking him how to get closer, he says by loving self, and loving god, and don't ask for love from anything else. He drinks one glass of water, and east some berries, and that is all his food. But According to Islam, he is deviated from the path, because you are to live a normal life, where you eat/cloth/marry/ have a job etc.

[–]anonomonster 0 points1 point ago

He sounds buddhist.

[–]SkillyBeeba -1 points0 points ago

Someone should get that guy an orange mocha frappuccino.

[–]SalMinella 231 points232 points ago

Today I present starvation, served two ways. Bon appetit!

[–]raoul_llamas_duke 12 points13 points ago

clever clever man

[–]realtruthlookforward 3 points4 points ago

You don't deserve the downvotes. Idk why you're getting them.

[–]raoul_llamas_duke 2 points3 points ago

well thanks for the support!

[–]Fakk 1 point2 points ago

This is one of the most brilliant comments I have read in a while. Bravo

[–]stoned_stoner 11 points12 points ago

Those shoes don't even match that purse.

[–]tacotacotaco_1 10 points11 points ago

I see this dude on the steps of the Post Office every day on the way to work. He is fucking skilled at scratching his balls in public.

[–]nextwiggin4 98 points99 points ago

The only problem with this picture is that, although it conveys a lot of emotionally powerful imagery, it conveys very little information about any of the subjects of the picture.

Now, I don't know much about New York, but since I know a lot about San Francisco, where this picture could easily be mistaken for, because it's such a common sight. The reason this is significant is because San Francisco does anything but ignore it. More is spent on the homeless and hungry per capita then almost any other city in the world. They do everything they can to help the less fortunate. So there ends up being huge numbers of them.

That's good and dandy, but San Francisco is also one of the richest cities in the world. One of the reason they can spend so much is because the rich give so much in taxes.

Studies have been done in San Francisco. There's enough housing for the poor that no person should have to spend a night on the street. There's more then enough food, no one starves who takes advantage of the system they've put in place. It's a triumph to the what modern society can accomplish.

That being said, why do they beg? Drugs, alcohol and profit mostly. Just because they are poor doesn't mean they don't prey on the generosity of the gullible. Dressing in filthy clothes and being unwashed, in San Francisco is a choice. One that makes you a lot of money if you work your angle right.

This juxtaposition pisses me off. Just because you have the two extremes standing side by side doesn't imply some sort of great inequity. These cities already help those people. Why do the rest of the citizens need to dress in shambles too in order for it to be fair?

[–]fe3o4 34 points35 points ago

although it conveys a lot of emotionally powerful imagery, it conveys very little information about any of the subjects of the picture.

The three girls are homeless crackheads that get their mismatched clothing from a trash bin outside of one of the biggest design departments in New York. The old guy on the steps is a billionaire that made his money on Wall Street and he is trying to negotiate for a foursome with the girls for $20.00 (since he is very frugal with his money). He is hesitant though, because he can't see the teeth of the girls to be sure that they aren't also meth-heads. He also has a foot fetish (the reason his shoes are off) and the girls are trying to get another $5.00 out of him as he has requested that they smell his feet.

The negotiation continues.......

[–]nextwiggin4 13 points14 points ago

This...um... this changes my analysis.

[–]myhomeboyschevy 9 points10 points ago

theres enough housing, but it isnt all available. think cathedral hill.

and they can beg, yes. but are there enough jobs for all of them anyway? not by a long shot.

you said a lot of things, some that i agree with. but calling homelessness a choice is kind of a dick thing to say. many are just batshit crazy. whats to be done?

also i dont think anyone is arguing that "the rest of the citizens need to dress in shambles". there is a great inequity.

you live in san francisco. you know how easy it is to lose your apartment. i lived there for years and lived check to check every week. even with a job, i spent five months living in a shitty hotel in the soma with drunks and pedos. the only way i got out of it was with help from friends and family...the kind of help clearly isnt available to the homeless. (except for teenage park kids)

[–]vornan19 22 points23 points ago

Man, Odin looks so down and out these days.

[–]paralemptor 11 points12 points ago

Ever since Gandalf became popular he's clearly taken it to heart and really let himself go.

...thanks for inspiring that comment, now I'm going to hell.

[–]dronethrone 3 points4 points ago

Well if you believe in Odin, you're probably going to Valhalla...

...which is FUCKING AWESOME.

[–]YouLookLikeADeer 4 points5 points ago

I think he's going by the name Wednesday in these parts.

[–]vornan19 -1 points0 points ago

Used to be Wodan thus Wodan's Day.

[–]spacetimemeatmachine 4 points5 points ago

You need to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

[–]alphsig55 2 points3 points ago

This is FUCKING FREE on Itunes download. I like to ALL CAPS excitement. So there.

[–]nobodyrp 1 point2 points ago

He just has to make his way down to the Tennessee/Georgia area, he'll be fine.

[–]A_Moist_Towelette 0 points1 point ago

Things just haven't been the same since his cameo in the Volsung Saga.

[–]ozetadev 12 points13 points ago

33rd and 8th

[–]rbrick111 0 points1 point ago

Yep I recognize that from a journey to B&H.

[–]fleole -4 points-3 points ago

I know I was recognizing it !!! Why there is no model walking by when I am at the office??

[–]Xangold 16 points17 points ago

I'm from New York, and I only see a group of well dressed young people. What are you all going on about?

[–]AustinTreeLover 6 points7 points ago

They most appalling thing about that photo is that jean skirt.

[–]so_many_squids 0 points1 point ago

Please don't let those come back into style. I like the absurdly short ones of unknown material (polyester?) that are in right now.

[–]acidfenix 15 points16 points ago

WTF, I tried to click the right arrow in the image...

[–]TrustInHenry 6 points7 points ago

Is he wearing a puffy pirate shirt?

[–]Capitan_Amazing 6 points7 points ago

It's really not a bad looking shirt after all.

[–]sphinnxx 6 points7 points ago

ITT: people who don't live in cities, and people that do. people who act like they care from a distance without consequence of actually helping, and people who know what is actually going on.

[–]ThrillingHeroics85 3 points4 points ago

Where is Hansel? He is so hot right now

[–]Elleedee 1 point2 points ago

I was on my way to work when a woman who was smoking and standing around on the sidewalk cornered me and asked for change. I gave her a dollar and told her to take care. She scoffed and said "I guess that's fine," though it clearly wasn't. I shrugged and kept going. Homeless or not, you don't have to be an asshole. The girls in this photo seem like assholes, or this is definitely a set up shot.

[–]fuckinglogic 6 points7 points ago

Looks like outside union station in toronto..? But I have heard NY and TO look very similar

[–]fridgee 1 point2 points ago

Ha, I actually thought the same thing, but after trying to make sure with some reference, I dont think it is.

[–]harvest3r 1 point2 points ago

I thought so too so I checked the google street view and it's not.

[–]fuckinglogic 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, forgot they were doing construction at union.

[–]_danada 1 point2 points ago

This looks extremely close to Union station. I was going to call BS, but it is slightly different!

[–]ryer123 1 point2 points ago

Thought so too but Union doesn't have a black railing like that. It's similar but a little different.

[–]crackcracks 2 points3 points ago

It's the NY public library next to Bryant Park.

[–]redmikeline 2 points3 points ago

It's actually outside the NY Post Office across the street from Penn Station. I see this guy all the time.

[–]name_with_a_y 0 points1 point ago

You should tell him about all the secondary karma he's gained. He can cash it in for at least a few meals, right?

[–]captars 0 points1 point ago

Correct. That building is the Farley Post Office on 34th.

[–]ownworldman 26 points27 points ago

Oh, there are rich people and poor people. So deep...

[–]MeloJelo 7 points8 points ago

As simple as that statement is, it actually is kind of deep if you think about the root causes of why there are rich people and poor people (beyond, you know, some people have money and some don't).

[–]ownworldman 0 points1 point ago

Well, why is this guy homeless? Did he lose his job and was unable to pay mortgage? Is he immigrant who never got any assistance getting a job? Does he have mental illness that forces him not to seek help? Does he choose this way of life? (As strange as it sounds, there are people on the street of their own will, they enjoy it like somebody enjoys camping).

This picture does not say anything about the root of problem, just that some people have decent material living standard and some do not.

[–]chewb 0 points1 point ago

he looks like an addict of some sort that for some reason survived the previous winters

[–]ownworldman 0 points1 point ago

Could be.

[–]AlextheGerman 0 points1 point ago

Listen to this man, he has heard about poverty!!! So no need to draw any more attention to it.

[–]ownworldman 0 points1 point ago

Is there anyone on the planet that has not?

[–]AlextheGerman 0 points1 point ago

Strange, why's the world than still so fucking shitty? IF everyone knew we would stop making this old mistake. It's not like the people on bottom had to starve nor has the middle-class to live in mediocrity, we have way too many military and other shit just built to compensate for human stupidity, it's still not known or at least not understood well enough.

[–]ownworldman 0 points1 point ago

It is deep rooted in principles why people are rich in the first place.

[–]ACommentFromBelow -4 points-3 points ago

If this is not a poignant picture, then what the fuck is?

[–]IMAROBOTLOL -3 points-2 points ago

POOR PEOPLE: WHO CARES ANYMORE, AMIRITE?

[–]estabonramirez 0 points1 point ago

This looks suspiciously like it's outside of Union Station at the corner of Front and Yonge in Toronto

[–]aeolus88 2 points3 points ago

Holy Fuck, they found Deckard Cain! Blizzard didnt actually kill him off in a really shitty fashion, they sent him to new york to look at fashion!

[–]The_AntiPirate 0 points1 point ago

poverty and excess

[–]TallLauren 4 points5 points ago

This picture makes me so sad.

[–]goroncity 0 points1 point ago

I know, it's like having really great deli meat but only stale bread to make a sandwich.

[–]Rosetti 0 points1 point ago

Fuck, you're good with them words.

[–]Fiverings 3 points4 points ago

I am filthy, I am DERELEECT!!

[–]JohnnyBsGirl 2 points3 points ago

[–]fe3o4 1 point2 points ago

That's terrible ! His socks don't match his shirt.

[–]jigglemybowls 0 points1 point ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]BirchesAndHoes 0 points1 point ago

This makes me sad... :(

[–]cubemonkey78 -1 points0 points ago

Am I really the first person to notice the "woman" on the far right with gigantic arms? It took me a while to even notice the homeless man.

[–]kinsmed 1 point2 points ago

Who is he wearing?

[–]illmoney 0 points1 point ago

I knew rockin the homeless look would come around soon

[–]JustPassingMyGas 1 point2 points ago

As an employee in NYC I've grown to hate bums. Especially the ones who shake their change cups as if they expect us to give them change. And the ones who have toddlers playing on the subway floor asking for pity. Ugh, makes me sick. /endrant

[–]lancequ01 0 points1 point ago

"woman" on the far right is actually a "man"

saw the group last week

[–]silver_birch 1 point2 points ago

[–]craigsproof -1 points0 points ago

Am I the only one that, despite the economic dichotomy of NY, wants to wrap that middle girls legs around my head and wear her like a scarf??

[–]neuromonkey -1 points0 points ago

Sexy.

[–]nednerbf 0 points1 point ago

I believe the look is called "goth ninja"

[–]DragonRaptor 0 points1 point ago

That beard is all the rage where I'm from!

[–]Morningxafter 0 points1 point ago

OMG! A a real American Hobo! Let's get a picture next to him! Oh but let's not stand TOO close.

[–]Definately_God 0 points1 point ago

Moses cosplay ftw

[–]lisabadcat 0 points1 point ago

He's closer to getting laid by a hot chick than I have been in the past 12 years.

[–]Dubzil -1 points0 points ago

[–]ParaplegicKoala 1 point2 points ago

Doesn't that show what is really wrong with this country? We still have homeless in the most prosperous nation in the history of the planet, yet we still have people without a home. What is really amazing is that OP probably posted this to look at hot chicks for a half chub, just saiyan that we value materialistic ethics over human needs. What does that say about us?

[–]classy_stegasaurus 0 points1 point ago

I have an odd feeling that this pic was staged...

[–]Psychography 1 point2 points ago

Am I the only one who tried to click the arrow in the right side lol

[–]say_whuuuut 0 points1 point ago

FACT: 90% of redditors don't care about the homeless either.

[–]ieatkitties 0 points1 point ago

I love this photo.

[–]iamfuckinganton 0 points1 point ago

perfect example of the VERY hot hipster trend going around new york right now. No mainstream brands, ironic facial hair, very eco-friendly and VERY sexy.

[–]Imissyourgirlfriend2 0 points1 point ago

The lady on the FAR left looks to have a mustache.

[–]jesse950 -1 points0 points ago

MILF

[–]jag149 0 points1 point ago

Wait... so, beards are back?

[–]chewb 0 points1 point ago

FUCK the homeless! The more money / housing / free food you throw at them, the more become homeless

It's just society's way of killing the weak. If they can't manage to survive in a first world country, they don't deserve to poison the gene pool. Simple as that. These are parasites on society that would have long been taken care of in the middle ages.

I've seen New York. There's immigrants selling hotdogs for 1 dollar in manhattan and making it yet this smelly eyesore of a disgusting human being begs and makes almost as much just to go and spend it on some form of narcotic. I have no empathy

Also addiction is not a disease and no, I am not a fun person at parties which is why I don't attend them

[–]MrRicey 0 points1 point ago

That bum costume is super authentic!

[–]orkid68 0 points1 point ago

What, nobody’s got a version without the scroll buttons on either side? All right, fine, I’ll get it.

[–]ygguana 0 points1 point ago

Soho is the biggest pile of scum and douchebaggery during Fashion Week

[–]fungiside 0 points1 point ago

this was taken right next to the post office on 33rd and 8th, I know this because that guy is one of the local homeless who'se always around here (near where I work).

He never asks for anything, and if you give him anything (he picks up cigs off the ground and out of ashtrays, so I ususally give him a cigarette) he's very civil about it.

[–]Awencord 0 points1 point ago

I wish I could give that man a sandwich!

[–]Xuixien 0 points1 point ago

Women are oppressed.

[–]TellYouWhut 0 points1 point ago

This made me feel like shit.

[–]TwitchingCheese -1 points0 points ago

People walking by him wearing things that cost enough to feed him for months only to forget them in a closet after they're "out of style" must be hard to watch.

[–]DeltaIndiaCharlieKil 2 points3 points ago

Get over yourself. Fashion is rooted in art and design. Just like beautiful architecture, it is taking something we need to survive and creating usable beauty. If it isn't important to you, great! But don't think you are some noble being because of it, or that you aren't somehow impacted by the industry (relevant).

How many IT people have old computer parts ditched because new (and expensive) technology came out? Are you bitching about them too?

[–]cloud93x -4 points-3 points ago

I just want to get from my car to my office without being confronted by the decay of western society!! On a serious note, this is a great picture of what is wrong with the predominant american "ignore it and it will go away" ideology.

[–]AintNeverGonnaStop 14 points15 points ago

Do you personally get involved in the lives of every homeless person you meet? You have no idea if these people donate to charity or whatnot.

[–]RedAnarchist 1 point2 points ago

Also, sorry to say it, but most homeless people are hopeless and have ended up in their position following many, many, repeated bad decisions.

After living in SF for 5 years, I have no sympathy for them anymore.

[–]Dented 3 points4 points ago

In NYC it's more like "Ignore it because your small act of kindness is selfish in that it will make you feel better about yourself without helping the problem."

[–]bradyjuice -3 points-2 points ago

Are you serious? What does that have to even DO with this picture? You're just falling into what the photographer wants you to think.

[–]cloud93x 1 point2 points ago

Ummm, it's a photograph. Taken by a photographer. Who wants you to see something. That's the point. So yeah, I hope I'm seein what the photographer wants me to see.

[–]CitizenPremier -1 points0 points ago

Where's the fashion?

[–]mathius123 -1 points0 points ago

Mmm, women that taste like cigarettes, vomit, and sadness dressed in clothes that are better suited on hooker clowns. LOVE fashion!

[–]WamZz 0 points1 point ago

I think I've seen him naked before.. Unfortunately.

[–]homeboy5925 -2 points-1 points ago

yay capitalism

[–]Rocco001 -4 points-3 points ago

They probably just about eat/weigh the same too....

[–]camalittle 6 points7 points ago

None of those girls are thin. Nor are they models.

They look like tourists from Indiana who shop at Kohl's or Target.

[–]GrinningPariah -1 points0 points ago

Aw man that homeless dude is totally ruining the shot. Can someone photoshop him out?

[–]Fuglypump 1 point2 points ago

The woman with the white hair on the right seems to have some kind of purse that looks like an arrow. Where can I buy one?

[–]rikki_go_on 0 points1 point ago

You trolled me good with that arrow!

[–]putthatfleainabox -2 points-1 points ago

Check out the hot asian bitch!

[–]misterbretzel -3 points-2 points ago

Took me about a minute to watch to the left.

[–]Tonytarium -1 points0 points ago

If this picture was taken in the 70's then it would be a "powerful image" full of emotion that really embodies the gap between the rich and the poor. But because its taken now all you asshole are like "So what, there is no message here, i need more context". The hypocrite does not know himself.

This isn't r/funny, this is a picture about contrast.
